Launching Secure-by-default Red Hat Enterprise Linux Instances on Amazon EC2 with Amazon VPC

Craig Carl

Thor Nolen

In this two-hour hands-on-lab, participants will use an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) to launch secure, private instances of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4. Participants will use the AWS Web Console to create a key pair and security groups, and launch instances with user data.

Amazon’s Craig Carl and Thor Nolen will review VPC connectivity options, including: hardware and software VPN, bastion hosts, and NAT. Participants will launch and configure a bastion host and use that host to securely connect to their private Amazon EC2 instances. At the conclusion of the lab, participants will better understand the Amazon VPC security model, subnets and routes, security groups, user data, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Amazon EC2.

All attendees will receive a $50 AWS credit.
