Come hear Pete Muir, Principal Software Engineer from Red Hat, and Richard Kennard from Kennard Consulting, discuss UI Development in their hosted campground session.
Title: Better UI Development with Metawidget
Date: Thursday, June 24
Time: 5:00pm
Abstract:
Most enterprise applications require many different data entry forms, either for collecting or displaying data. Most developers build these forms using either a visual tool (like Matisse) or a UI language (like Facelets). But both these approaches are laborious, error prone and violate D.R.Y. – by requiring you to repeat in your front-end what is already defined in your back-end. Some developers use code generators (like Naked Objects) but such tools generally dictate what technologies you must use, and produce very generic-looking CRUD UIs.
In this session we’ll introduce Metawidget, a community Open Source project specifically designed to address these common pain points. We will discuss:
- Why current approaches to form development are unsatisfactory
- How Metawidget enables you to use any combination of back-end technologies
- How Metawidget enables you to use any combination of front-end technologies, including different UI frameworks and mixing third-party widget libraries
- How Metawidget fits in with your existing UI design process, leveraging the full flexibility of your existing toolkit to create highly usable UIs
